SYNOPSIS

Mister Paper cuts and pastes the world together exactly as he likes. He lives in a paper house surrounded by a paper landscape. His only companion is a cat, but thanks to his scissors and childlike imagination, he is never alone. For every situation, Mister Paper creates a solution by cutting or pasting something new. He cuts out a bottle when he is thirsty and an apple when he is hungry. Or he cuts out a cow so that he can get milk for the cat. And when the cat does not feel like playing, he cuts out a dog to take for a walk. Through his adventures, the world of children is brought to life in a playful and imaginative way: a world rooted in reality, where anything is possible

Mister Paper was created using cut-out animation: paper characters and sets were animated frame by frame on a table. By occasionally lifting the arms and legs away from the flat surface, a playful 2.5D effect was created, adding extra light and shadow.

The characters consist of separate, movable paper parts and interchangeable faces. The style and choice of materials were developed together with Gerda Dendooven, ensuring that the series closely reflects the illustrations in the books.

A detailed storyboard and animatic were created in advance, with voices, sound effects and temporary music serving as a guide for the animators. The foley was also recorded as much as possible using paper and cardboard.
